questions about DIY wedding cakes and bouquets please?
how easy and cost-wise is it? i'm considering making my own bouquets and decorating my own cake, but i'm wondering about the following points
for bouquets,
if you put your own flowers together how did they look? were they what you pictured them to be? and did you find it as expensive as getting fresh from florist?
and for cakes did you find it easy having maybe never done it before or did you practice? how did it turn out? better to do yourself or worth the money to go with professionals?
my bouquet is hand tied ivory roses with diamante pins, and my cake is plain ivory with maybe 6 - 8 pink sugar butterflies sitting on it, 3 ivory rose heads on top with butterflies on pins for the topper. what are your thoughts?
your bouquets sounds gorgeous! in answer to your question you can save a ton of money by doing your own bouquets and they are dead easy to do - you already have your plans for fresh flowers and it sounds good - if you decide to do silks then its even easier and you can do a bouquet with a dozen roses in it for under $20.00
check out the big box stores like michael's - they have beautiful artificial flowers and quite often on sale!
i found it very easy to work with the artificial and in fact did my sister's bouquets [eight of them] - in an afternoon. doing my own fresh flowers wasn't quite as easy but still was able to do them with little trouble and all the flowers for both weddings looked gorgeous!
as for the cake - making the cake itself isn't difficult so as long as you have a steady hand for icing the cake you should be fine - you can purchase the sugar pieces quite reasonably and again will save yourself a fair bit of money.
