Noblest Chinese
Apr/110
Things are inherently untranslatable from one language to another?
I had the spirit of noble efforts of the team one in trying to translate Finnegans Wake in Chinese. Are works of literature forever beyond our reach?
it was just a joke movie, but it fitted with the "lost in translation" ... term in the Czech film Kolja, a father / Czech / and adopted son / Russian-side mother, only speaks Russian / fly the flags on the day of liberation. in the years the film is about, we were flying both Russian and Czech flag. Now, the joke is> the son said: [Naash kraasnyi] which means "red is our only" replies the father / he does not speak Russian at all [NE, naash kraasnay I] / which means "no, it's our only what is beautiful" the problem with translation into English is the phonetic similarity Russian language [kraasnyi] = red and Czech [kraasnay] = beautiful.
