What happens when a white ball goes in with 8 ball on final shot?

So me and my friend were playing pool and then at the last shot his white ball went inside with 8 ball, does he lose? (please cite your info so i can prove to him that he lost)

(edited as I read the question wrong).

If you make both the 8-ball and the cueball on the same shot, you lose the game in any rules.

Here was my answer if you scratched while shooting the 8-ball but the 8-ball itself did not go in a pocket:

Years ago many people played with the rules that if you are shooting at the 8 ball and you scratch or fly the cue ball off the table you would lose the game. There are still a few league systems that use those rules. And sometimes these are still referred too as "bar rules".

In the past 15+ years the rules have changed and standardized. In the BCA rules it is not a loss to foul while attempting to make the 8 ball. It would merely be ball-in-hand to your opponent and they would have to run out their remaining balls to get the win. You would lose if you made the 8-ball and also fouled on the same shot.

Also, there is no such rule that states that if you scratch on the break you lose. I don't know where that came from.

Many rules now are switching over from granting a Win for an 8-ball break. Also, they are taking away a Loss for making the 8-ball and the Cue Ball on the break. The newer rule says that on an 8-ball break the 8-ball can either be spotted and the player can continue to shoot as the balls lay OR they can ask for a re-rack and break again.

The rules have changed for the better of the game. It takes away the chance of someone winning a game where they might not have even shot one shot or made one ball. If your opponent shoots all of their balls off the table and scratches on the 8-ball, you should have no problem at all making the rest of your balls and winning the game.
