Red Satin
Aug/100
Which finish is better for new hardwood floors (red oak), satin or medium gloss?
I don't want it to look like a basketball court and so I know I don't want high gloss, but any opinions regarding either of the other options would be greatly appreciated.
Also, a tag-on question---------has anyone used wood floor vent covers and regretted it? I wonder if metal is better, being more flush with floor?
Thanks in advance for all comments and advice.
Great answers, both of you. Thanks.
Go with a satin. The flatter (less glossy) the surface, the better. This is because you get less reflective light (glare) and the matte surface really shows off the wood finish.
Regarding wood versus metal registers, you would have to have the wood registers be finished exactly the same color as the floor to look right. And, they will stay flush just as much as the metal registers would. Personally, I think I would prefer the metal registers (brass, brushed nickel, something like that). I just think it has a classier look.
